Joana De La Torre’s Portfolio
Born and raised in San Diego, CA, I study Mechanical Engineering at Yale University. I’m passionate about materials science, mechanical construction, manufacturing, and everything else that crosses my path. You’ll usually find me either conducting research in a lab, or at a machine shop working on a new project. I value hands on work and look forward to learning all there is in engineering. On this site, you can see a collection of my research and experience.

After wrapping up my ‘25 summer, I am honored to have spent my time alongside the Durability Team in Plymouth, Michigan. I am forever grateful to my amazing team for this experience, and hope to be among their most memorable interns yet.
Somewhere between calibrating force transducers, installing suspension components solo, and rolling an entire Rivian vehicle onto the cafeteria floor for the intern showcase, I learned that durability testing is equal parts engineering rigor, teamwork, and not being afraid to get your hands dirty. This summer taught me how real vehicles are validated—and that sometimes the best classroom is a proving ground.
